Sal is a diver's paradise with wrecks, rich tropical underwater flora and a massive array of fish. The unique volcanic topography gives rise to rocky ridges, pinnacles, boulders, arches and caves that make underwater exploration a real adventure. From February to June whales are often seen and you can see plenty of turtles from June to September.

The island of Sal is one of the most reliable kitesurf holiday destinations for the winter season (November to April). The kitesurfing on Sal caters to all skill levels, whether you are a beginner or an established wave rider, however, the conditions in Sal are best suited to intermediate and advanced kiters. There are three main kitesurf zones; a fall out of your bed onto the water spot in the bay, a flat water spot for practising freestyle tricks and improving and an impressive 3 to 6-metre wave for advanced kiters.

During the winter months (November to April) there is always clean, consistent and reliable winds blowing every day in Sal.
The Cape Verde islands are very well known by wave riders.
There are some small easy waves at the far end of the main Santa Maria beach for those that want to gibe and windsurf in a safe spot while more experienced windsurfers will enjoy sailing at Ponte Preta as it is a phenomenal full-on wave spot.
