St Lucia receives the trade winds, which blow most reliably from November until June. The average winds strength in the morning is 16 knots, which picks up throughout the day, peaking at around 25 knots. The very strongest wind months for kiting are between November and March. Though anytime in the season from November to June is very reliably windy.
The main kitesurf sport is located close to the Coconut Bay Resort, on the south side of the Island, where you will find Anse De Sables (Sandy Beach). The area is really safe for all levels, as the wind blows cross-on, and is clear of rocks. If you have a car in St Lucia, you can travel to the north side of the island, where you will find other great kitesurfing spots, such as, Cas en Bas is on the Atlantic side of the island, which benefits from the constant trade winds. The bay is protected from an outer reef, meaning the water is always flat inside the bay, but with the swell breaking upwind outside the bay.
Description :
Group kitesurf lessons are normally around 4 students per instructor, although it can be up to 6. Full equipment is included during all beginner courses. Group lessons are great value for money and lots of fun, but if you are looking for rapid progression, we recommend upgrading to private or semi-private lessons (see other courses, or please call us for advice).
Lessons are normally taken in 2 to 3 hour sessions, but depend on the local wind and sea conditions. Some centres will shorten the hours if they have less students as they will be able to cover the same course structure in a shorter time. Lessons are dependent on local conditions.
Description :
Semi-Private lessons are a maximum of 2 students per instructor, meaning fast progression. The lessons include all equipment and are designed to take you from total beginner to up and riding. We normally suggest at least 10 hours to get the up on the board doing short runs. Lessons are normally in 2 - 3-hour sessions, but dependent on local conditions.
Description :
Kitesurfing Lessons with a personal instructor gives you the opportunity to have a 1-on-1 interaction with your instructor to help you learn at a pace that is driven by you. The Learn To Kitesurf course aims to get you riding, while also teaching you how to read the conditions and utilise your equipment safely and correctly. You will then move on to the board lessons. What does that mean? Well it is time to get up on the board now. You will practice using the kite to generate pull and you will learn how to get the kite to pull you without the board first. The idea is to get used to how the kite behaves when asked to pull you. Once confident doing this you will learn how to put the board on your feet and after that, how to get up on the board. Most people will manage to do a few metres on the board by the end of the course.
Description :
Daily kitesurf unlimited rental, with choice of boards and kites, bar included. The range of equipment will vary from each different kitesurf school, so sometimes the exact kite size may not be available. Kitesurf rental packages are great if you want to experiment with different types of equipment before you decide to invest in your own, or if you just don't want toe hassle of taking your own equipment.
The quality of kitesurf rental equipment will vary from each different sport centre. Take a look at the sport centre details for more information on this. if you are not sure then you can always call us. We only work with the best kitesurf centres in each resort and do our best to visit every centre we offer.
